It's a Halloween weekend in Hanoi, and the biggest night is also a goodbye: «Back From The Dead» takes over Outpost Hanoi for the third time — and the last. Three stages, two areas, one night from sunset to sunrise; after 31 October the festival will not return to this venue.
Alongside the parties there are things of a completely different order, and two of them end this very weekend: the final performance of Boris Eifman's «Eugene Onegin» and the last night of «Đêm Văn Miếu» — both on Saturday 31 October. The «Mộng Mê» art fair runs in a café garden through Saturday and Sunday daytime, with a little Halloween folded in. Below are the five events we picked ourselves, followed by the full list of everything on in Hanoi from Friday to Sunday.

2The one Hanoi Halloween party you cannot leave early: it happens on a boat.
Bloom and Outlandish invite «souls from the other side» aboard a boat leaving Chuong Duong pier: live sets, DJs and «rituals» on deck, with the sunset, the bridges and the city seen from the water all around. 17:00 to 22:00, tickets 300,000 ₫ — come before the boat leaves.

3Eifman Ballet brings «Onegin» to a Hanoi stage for the first time — and these are the final shows.
Boris Eifman turns Pushkin's novel in verse into a ballet about one refusal and one letter left unanswered. Curtain 19:30, tickets from 500,000 ₫, last performance on 31 October. If you were saving it for next time, there is no next time.

4The Temple of Literature after dark is a different place: its history is told in light, not on signboards.
Thousand-year-old architecture under 3D projection mapping, with sensors reacting as visitors move. Tours start at 18:30, tickets 149,000 ₫. There is only one showing this weekend — Saturday evening, 31 October; there is no Friday show, and the season closes after it.

5If you want a bit of Halloween without waiting for nightfall, this is the place.
The seventh art fair by Vườn Nhiều Cái Lạ brings paintings, crafts and oddities by independent makers into the garden of Sgarden Cafe, this time under the theme «Mộng Mê» («Dreams») with a little Halloween mixed in. Open from 10:00 on Saturday until 18:00 on Sunday — the one entry on this list you can bring children to, and a reason to leave the house on Sunday.
