Exhibition and talk «Tiền Nhân Lập Chợ» (Our Ancestors Set Up the Market)

   Understand a family's ways through a market day: «Tiền Nhân Lập Chợ» («Our Ancestors Set Up the Market») opens the programme «Nếp Nhà Xưa – Mạch Sống Người Việt», combining an exhibition, a talk and hands-on activities.

   The event treats the market not only as a place to trade goods but as a social space where people meet, talk and keep their word. Main themes:

• — the role of the market in community life, through historical documents
• — trading etiquette: from inviting customers and bargaining to respecting other people's work
• — the meaning of trust (chữ tín) through real buying-and-selling situations
• — memories of going to the market with grandparents and parents

   The exhibition recreates a corner of an old market where visitors can try calling out to customers, haggling and dealing fairly. In «Memory Map», everyone writes down a memory of a market, village or street they once lived in and adds it to a shared map. The talk runs 9:00–11:30 on Saturday 31 October, with guests speaking from history, culture, archives and everyday life.

   It is aimed at young people, parents exploring with their children, older people with memories to pass on, and those working in education, culture and crafts. The organisers encourage signing up as «family pairs» or across generations. The programme has 12 themes, planned at one per month.
