About the event

What is left when love arrives at the wrong moment? One refusal, one letter with no reply, one meeting stretched across years — and a whole life lived just past the thing that mattered most. This ballet, reaching the stage here for the very first time, speaks of that exact feeling, familiar to anyone who has ever been a beat too late to say yes.

   In brief:
Choreographer — Boris Eifman
Based on Pushkin's novel in verse «Eugene Onegin»
Music — fragments by Tchaikovsky and rock by Alexander Sitkovetsky
Two hours with an interval
The production — for the first time in Vietnam
Performed by a company of world renown — Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg

Created in 2009, the production makes a bold move: Boris Eifman lifts Pushkin's characters out of the nineteenth century and drops them into our own time, onto the fault line between crumbling eras. Onegin, Tatyana and Lensky move through a world where the old order is breaking apart and each of them must find footing amid the chaos. This is a psychological ballet about what we grasp only when it is already too late — about the pride that stands in the way of happiness, about choices that cannot be taken back, about the gap between who we were and who we might have become.

Boris Eifman is one of the most widely known choreographers of our age and the creator of a genre often called «psychological ballet» — where movement does not merely trace a plot but lays bare a character's inner life, its conflicts, obsessions and hidden longings. Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg is a company of international stature that has toured the world's great stages, celebrated for a physical language of rare intensity and expressive power.

The evening is meant for lovers of ballet and for anyone drawn to Russian culture. For a Russian-speaking audience it carries a particular value: the chance to live inside Pushkin's story and hear Tchaikovsky's music sound out live in the hall. Yet even if you have never opened the novel, the language of the body tells the whole tale — without a single spoken word.
