Exhibition «Thời Hoa» (The Flowering of Time)

   Five artists from different generations — from a printmaker with nearly two decades of practice to names still shaping their own language — share one small room in central Hanoi. This is neither a retrospective nor a debut, but a conversation between artists who already belong to the story of Vietnamese art and those still writing themselves into it.

   The collection is called «Thời Hoa», which the hosts themselves render in English as The Flowering of Time. The image behind it is a garden: every kind of beauty has its season, and each season that ends leaves seeds for the next one. The hang follows the same logic — established painting stands next to the newer practice of younger artists, and you are left to draw the lines between them.

   Who is showing:

• — Phạm Khắc Quang (born 1975 in Hải Dương) graduated from the printmaking department of Đại học Mỹ thuật Việt Nam (Vietnam University of Fine Arts) in 2002 and has spent close to twenty years on wood engraving and on printing experiments on glass and stainless steel; his solo projects have been shown at Manzi Art Space and the Goethe-Institut in Hanoi, and one installation travelled to a festival in Aarhus, Denmark.
• — Quách Bắc (born 1988 in Hanoi) has four solo exhibitions behind him; the most recent, in 2024 at Bảo tàng Mỹ thuật Việt Nam (Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum), turned artwork certificates into artworks themselves and asked what the market is really paying for.
• — Nguyễn Thế Hùng, MYAN and Hoàng Trần complete the line-up.

   If you follow the Hanoi art scene, this is a compact way to compare what the senior printmakers and the younger painters are doing right now. If you are simply walking through the centre, Nương Náu Art Hub is small enough and quiet enough to let you stand close to the work; in early 2025 the space was one of the organisers of the Trẩy Art fair.

   No booking and no registration are needed, so you can just walk in during opening hours. Half an hour here gives you five different visual languages side by side, which is a fair way to spend a September afternoon in Hanoi.
