Exhibition «23» – works by Nguyễn Ngọc Linh

#exhibition#painting#artistic anatomy#Nguyen Ngoc Linh#Manzi#Ba Dinh#Hanoi

About the event

Ten years of self-directed study, all the way down to the bones and muscles of the human body: this autumn Manzi presents the first gathering of works by Nguyễn Ngọc Linh, an artist devoted to artistic anatomy.

‘23’ places his paintings alongside personal archives and notes, tracing his journey from a self-taught student to a lecturer and independent artist. Manzi frames it with a question: without volume to touch, with only line and mass on a flat surface, how far can the human figure be traced back to the roots of expression?

   About the artist:

  • — born in 1988, he once worked as a tattoo artist in Hanoi
  • — in 2015 he moved to France to study fine arts at the University of Strasbourg; a chance find in a secondhand bookshop led him to the classic Anatomie Artistique, first published in 1889
  • — he spent three years studying the human body first-hand at the Strasbourg Institute of Anatomy
  • — since 2019 he has run «Giải phẫu học nghệ thuật» (Artistic Anatomy), teaching short intensive courses

The show is for people who draw, art students and anyone curious about the human body through the eyes of an anatomy artist.

The opening party is at 6pm on Friday 16 October; from 17 October to 15 November the show is open daily 8am–7pm. Admission is free. An artist talk and a workshop will take place during the show, with details to follow.

Visit Manzi on Phan Huy Ích street and see the human body in a different way.
