Exhibition «Một Hà Nội. Triệu bước tiến» (One Hanoi. A Million Strides)

   An open-air display right beside the lake, with no ticket and no queue: you meet it simply by walking past. It stays up for over three weeks, and its subject is the city seen from the eye level of somebody running through it.

   The exhibition is produced by Techcombank with the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, within the fifth edition of the Hanoi International Marathon Techcombank. It draws on strides taken along a heritage route and recreates a Hanoi thick with history yet visibly in motion, framed by the runner community together with Vietnamese and international photographers.

   What separates this from a set of scenic views is where it starts. This year's course runs past 37 landmarks and buildings carrying the city's cultural and historical imprint, from long-established streets to contemporary urban spaces. The moments when runners pass those places become a visual account of the city and open another way for residents and visitors to read the place they are standing in.

   The context around it:

• — the race enters its fifth season, directed by the Hanoi People's Committee and the city's culture department
• — Sunrise Events Vietnam organises it, with Techcombank as strategic sponsor
• — the Marathon Village has grown and expects 14,000 Vietnamese and international runners
• — the organising committee describes every entrant as a heritage ambassador

   It works for families out at the weekend, for runners, for photographers, and for tourists already staying near the centre. Phạm Xuân Tài, deputy director of the city's culture, sports and tourism department, says Hanoi has its infrastructure, security and medical arrangements ready across the whole event week.

   The run lasts more than three weeks and covers the race days themselves, so you can come early to see where you will be running, or come afterwards to find that route again.
