«Festival Thu Hà Nội 2026» (Hanoi Autumn Festival)

   For three days at the end of September the Trần Nhân Tông walking street and Công viên Thống Nhất park merge into a single promenade where the capital's autumn is laid out to be tasted, smelled and handled rather than merely photographed. If your idea of Hanoi in autumn comes from yellow-leaf pictures, this is the chance to step inside it.

   The event is run by the Hanoi Department of Tourism (Sở Du lịch thành phố Hà Nội) under the theme «Thu Hà Nội - Hành trình cảm xúc», roughly «Hanoi Autumn - A Journey of Emotions», and the organisers describe it as a large-scale culture and tourism event for the capital. The announced scale is around 100 to 120 stalls across some 5,000 sq m, spread over the two adjoining spaces.

   What the festival grounds put on display:

• — autumn food — cốm (young green rice), lotus tea, phở and mooncakes, each tied to a story about the season and about how Hanoians live
• — craft villages — ceramics, silk, conical hats and tò he rice-dough figurines, with artisans working in front of you
• — OCOP products and regional specialities from across the country
• — digital technology and virtual reality used to retell heritage in a more visual way for younger visitors
• — an international exchange area

   The route does not stop downtown. The programme extends to Hồ Gươm, Ba Vì, Sóc Sơn and Hương Sơn — four destinations with very different landscapes, heritage and community life — while the official poster adds the line «and other locations across the city».

   Families with children get the most out of it: at the craft village area you can watch and then try it yourself. Food-minded visitors get cốm and lotus tea in the short window when they are actually in season. For expats and travellers already in Hanoi, nearly the whole cultural palette of the capital is packed into one walkable strip.

   This is an established brand. The third edition, in 2025, ran from 21 to 23 November on the same walking street and in the same park, with 150 stalls announced beforehand; the second, in 2024, was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the capital's liberation. This year the festival moves back to late September, its opening day falls exactly on the full moon of the eighth lunar month, and mooncakes duly appear on the food list.

   Daily opening hours and entry conditions had not been published by the organisers when the festival was announced, so check them closer to the date. The two spaces adjoin each other and take a few minutes to walk between.

   A Hanoi autumn compressed into three days and one walking street is worth giving up an afternoon for.
