Bass music party «Revived presents Mungk & SBK» at Tonic Rooftop

   UK bass across its full range — dubstep, grime, UK garage and dub — on an open rooftop in Thảo Điền. Line-ups like this do not come round often in Saigon: four visiting guests from London, Bangkok and Goa in a single night, and three of them are playing to this city for the first time.

   The night is put together by Revived Promotions, a Saigon crew that runs bass nights every month or two rather than every week. Who is playing:

• — SBK — a London-born grime MC making a Saigon debut;
• — Mungk (UK) — DJ, producer and co-founder of One Forty Asia; the night is the final stop of an Asia tour and a first ever set in Ho Chi Minh City;
• — Xulalit — DJ, promoter, producer and vocalist from Bangkok, billed by the organisers as a rising name in Asian bass music;
• — Babban — DJ and producer from Goa making a Vietnam debut, with mixes recorded for Revived, Deep Tempo 140, One Forty Asia, The Gunners Show and Filth Inc India.

   Local support comes from Cache, a UK selector, producer and rapper based in the city, and B.Lin, a Vietnamese selecta and a regular at Revived nights.

   You will get the most out of this if you can tell grime from dubstep by ear and are tired of hearing one such track a night in Saigon. It is an easy room even without that: an open rooftop rather than a basement, with the bar a few steps off the dance floor.
