Club night «Best of Open CUE»

   A summing-up night: the booth goes to the people picked out of the bar's own weekly open-decks sessions. In the Saigon club calendar that is a rare case, where a line-up comes not from bookings or big names but from who played best midweek.

   The Open CUE series is the bar's weekly open-decks night, held on Wednesdays and open to DJs of any level. The rules are short: no pre-booking, names go on the board in order of arrival, slots run an hour, and if three or more DJs are waiting the slots are halved. The gear belongs to the bar — a professional DJ setup and a full club sound system — so a guest only needs headphones and a USB stick.

   For this one the series organiser Barajas picked the roster himself and takes the booth alongside them. The flyer carries three logos: Open CUE, Dopeamin and the bar itself.

   Luu Bar is a neighbourhood bar that turns into a small club at the weekend: the programme rests on non-commercial electronic music, house, techno and a wide spread of underground sounds curated by local and visiting DJs. The venue states a capacity of about a hundred guests, and the whole mechanic of the night follows from that — the booth stands a couple of steps from the floor, and you hear the room react immediately.

   The night is for anyone following the Saigon underground who wants to hear who is surfacing in it right now. For beginner DJs it doubles as a plain answer to what open-decks nights lead to if you keep showing up. The series normally sits midweek, while this selected edition moves into the bar's weekend slot.

   If you would rather hear the Saigon scene at its entry point than at its summit, this is the night where most of it is audible at once.
