Charity run «Run4Real»

#running#charity run#road race#fundraising#students#Ho Chi Minh City

About the event

Your entry fee for a Sunday morning run across a university campus in Ho Chi Minh City turns into desks, teaching equipment and scholarships for schools in remote parts of the country. The race is initiated and run by secondary and high school students themselves, and your part is simply to pick a distance and show up at the line.

This is the project's second edition, marked as Season 2 on the official artwork, under the motto «Real Steps Real Hope — Bước Tiếp Ước Mơ». The organising team is made up of pupils from several schools who have already run charity projects in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hậu Giang, An Giang, Gia Lai, Buôn Ma Thuột and Đắk Lắk. According to the organisers, those programmes have supported more than 200 schools and shelters, with contributions of over 200,000,000 VND a year.

   Distances and prizes

   — 5 km, open to runners aged 12 and above
— 10 km and 15 km, open to runners aged 15 and above
— each distance awards the first three men and the first three women
— 5 km: a medal plus 200,000 to 600,000 VND
— 10 km: a medal plus 300,000 to 800,000 VND
— 15 km: a medal plus 500,000 to 1,000,000 VND

Five kilometres is a manageable distance for a first race and for families who jog together at weekends, while the 10 and 15 km give regular runners a September benchmark. There are also combo entries for two and for five people, so a running club, a group of friends or a whole class can sign up in one go.

   Entry fees

   — individual entry: 5 km — 425,000 VND, 10 km — 565,000 VND, 15 km — 715,000 VND
— combo for two: 808,000, 1,074,000 and 1,358,000 VND by distance
— combo for five: 1,915,000, 2,545,000 and 3,220,000 VND by distance

The course map and the wave-by-wave timetable are still listed as being updated on the event page, so check the start time of your own distance shortly before race day. The venue sits inside the National University campus town, some fifteen kilometres north-east of the city centre.

A race where teenagers raise money for classrooms of their own generation deserves one more pair of shoes on the start line.
