SportsEvery bib at this race carries a name: runners write on a back label the person they dedicate their steps to. That is how a sports morning at Celadon City turns into a message of support for people living with cancer, and you can join it over 3 km or 10 km.
The race started in 2023 under the motto «Chạy vì người tôi yêu» — «Run for beloved ones» — and belongs to the Ngày hội Nón Hồng festival held by Mạng lưới Ung thư Vú Việt Nam (BCNV, the Breast Cancer Network Vietnam) to mark Pink October, the global breast cancer awareness campaign. The festival is in its 13th year, organisers expect close to 10,000 people on site and around 5,000 of them on the course. It is a road race run on closed loops inside the Celadon City district, with water points, medical stations and ambulances along the way.
The numbers worth knowing before you register:
The event is open to everyone. Families with children and first-time runners usually take the 3 km, club runners use the 10 km as an end-of-season workout, and companies register in groups. People currently in treatment and those who have recovered line up too, which is what gives this start line its particular mood.
Once the running is over, the festival part begins. The hair donation drive brings together 27 salons of the Pink Hair Salon network, which cut donors' hair to the required standard free of charge; the screening programme offers 500 free breast cancer checks with around 20 specialist doctors, run together with medical partners and BCNV's advisory team. Alongside them are a photo exhibition, fundraising stalls and a run of check-in spots, with the fair area open until 16:00.
The programme is spread over two days. On Saturday 31 October the venue hosts the BCNV photo exhibition, bib collection and the hair library taking in pre-cut donations. On Sunday 1 November the race itself goes off in the cool early morning. Parking sits right next to the start area, off Đường D2.
Entry fees follow sales waves. The Last Call wave runs to 20 September at 529,000 VND for 3 km and 749,000 VND for 10 km. The Late wave, 21 September to 5 October, moves up to 569,000 VND and 799,000 VND, which is also the standard price. Group entry is cheaper per person: from 20 runners it is 510,000 VND and 720,000 VND, from 200 runners it drops to 430,000 VND and 600,000 VND, and every group entry comes with a gift. Registration closes on 5 October. Organisers give no refunds in any form; moving up a distance means paying the difference, moving down does not return it.
BCNV was started by Thuong Sobey (Thương Sobey, 1982–2015), a stage 4 breast cancer patient; it works on a non-profit basis and became a social enterprise in 2018. All profit from the race goes into BCNV programmes that support cancer patients across the country free of charge.
For questions about entries, write to the organisers at [email protected]; group registration is handled by Ms Dung on 0932 894 268.
One morning, a few kilometres and a name written on your back are enough to put another runner on that course.
