SportsThe island's biggest sports weekend opens with the youngest field on the start line. Children aged 5 to 15 swim in a lifeguard-patrolled bay, cycle the internal roads of the marina complex and finish along the coastal road with their parents cheering them in.
There are two categories, so a child can pick the load that suits them. Aquathlon is swim plus run, triathlon adds the bike leg. Distances follow age groups and double for the older bracket:
The most telling rule of IRONKIDS is in the results sheet: the organisers do not rank children by finishing time. Crossing the line is the achievement, and the point of the race is confidence rather than a podium. For many of these children it is the first full competitive course they cover on their own.
The race is one of three events held over the same weekend in Phú Quốc, alongside BIM Group IRONMAN 70.3 Phú Quốc and SUNRISE SPRINT Vietnam. All three are run by Sunrise Events Vietnam, holder of the IRONMAN 70.3 licence in the country since 2008, so a family can line up on two consecutive days, children on one and parents on the other.
Entry is 950,000 ₫ per place and registration closes on 1 November. The fee covers the event shirt, chip bib and finisher medal, and course maps for the swim, bike and run legs of both age groups are already published. The detailed wave timings will be posted closer to race day.
If you are bringing the family to Phú Quốc in mid-November, this is your chance to put the children on the start line of a genuine international race, on about the prettiest stretch of water the organisers could have picked.
