From the legend of the Dragon and the Fairy to the refinement of the royal court, Vietnamese traditions come alive in a single evening on a water stage framed by moving houses and 3D mapping. If you want to understand what Vietnamese people are proud of, spend an evening at Grand World Phu Quoc.
«Tinh Hoa Việt Nam», billed in English as The Quintessence of Vietnam, is staged every evening at 20:15 in the Tinh Hoa Viet Nam zone of Grand World Phu Quoc. According to VinWonders, the stage covers about 11,000 square meters, 300 dancers take part and the production cost $8.3 million. The general director is Nguyen Viet Tu (Nguyễn Việt Tú), the music director is Thanh Phuong (Thanh Phương), and historian Tran Duc Cuong (Trần Đức Cường) served as history consultant.
Four chapters, 12 scenes:
— «Nguồn cội» («Origins»): the legend of the Dragon and the Fairy (Con Rồng cháu Tiên), life in ancient Au Lac (Âu Lạc) and the ancestors opening up new land
— «Đời sống» («Daily Life»): traditional culture through bamboo, rice farming and cooking
— «Hành trình đạo học» («The Scholar's Path»): the Vietnamese love of learning and the old road to academic degrees
— «Tinh hoa Việt Nam» («The Quintessence of Vietnam»): the beauty of royal court culture and the tradition of defending the country
The show uses a water stage, rows of houses that move, a zipline, 3D mapping and modern sound and lighting. As director Viet Tu told VnExpress, the houses serve as shops by day and slide aside at night to open up the stage.
The show premiered in April 2021 and was promptly recognized by the Vietnam Record Association (VietKings) as the multimedia live show using 3D technology that recreates the largest number of traditional historical stories of Vietnam.
The Tinh Hoa Viet Nam zone is designed as an old village with a main gate, a back gate, bamboo hedges and a palace, and all of its floor tiles were fired by hand. After the show, at 21:00, a floating lantern release (thả đèn hoa đăng) takes place here.
It makes a good first introduction to Vietnamese history and culture and works well for families with children.
Show tickets are sold separately, while entry to Grand World Phu Quoc itself is free. The reduced fare applies to children between 1 m and 1.4 m tall and to visitors aged 60 and over; children under 1 m get in free. A ticket is valid for one entry on the chosen date and cannot be refunded, cancelled or exchanged for another service.
The Tinh Hoa Viet Nam zone is to the left of the Grand World Phu Quoc entrance, in the Bai Dai area (Bãi Dài), about 24 km from the island's center.

One evening at Grand World is enough to walk through four chapters of Vietnamese culture.
