Mid-Autumn celebration «A Magical Moonlit Night»

   The lantern procession walks on sand rather than down a street, the festive tray is laid out under an island sky, and the lion-dance drums mix with the surf. On the south of the island this is the biggest Mid-Autumn gathering of the whole season.

   It falls on 25 September — the exact eighth-month full moon, a Friday this year. From the daytime the resort's Kids Club turns into a craft workshop: children fold paper lanterns, make plush rabbits, paint folk masks and play «junior artisan» in a snowskin mooncake class. After dark the evening shifts into «A Magical Moonlit Night» on Bai Kem beach: under the lanterns the children join the procession alongside Chi Hang and Chu Cuoi, cheer along with the lion drums, then share the festive tray with their families.

   This one is for families with small children already staying in southern Phu Quoc over the full-moon weekend. What makes it different is that the holiday is not carved out of the trip: the beach and the rest of the day stay as they are, baking and lantern-making come in the afternoon, and the procession only starts once it is dark.
