Book talk «Meet & Read: Exploring the American Classic»

   A novel that spent half a century as a quiet classic before becoming a worldwide bestseller is a fine excuse to sit down and talk books. The American Center HCMC invites you to a Meet & Read session on Stoner by John Williams — the story of a modest university professor that somehow holds a whole life's worth of love, ambition and quiet perseverance.

   The format

   The discussion is led by Olivia Holtgren, a Peace Corps Vietnam volunteer. Expect an informal conversation about the novel's themes and how it reflects American life and values. Having read the book helps, but coming out of curiosity works too.

   Who it's for

   English learners after real conversation practice, fans of American literature, and anyone curious about US culture first-hand.

   Practicalities

   Entry is free with advance registration. Bring your physical passport or photo ID — the venue is part of the US Consulate's premises. Children under 15 are not admitted to the American Center; by attending you agree to being photographed or filmed for the organiser's promo materials.
