Jazz night «Soul After Dark» at Blake's House of Jazz

   From smoky blues to swinging vocal standards, Friday at Blake's House of Jazz is all about feeling the music. If you want a live voice and some soul at the end of the week, in an intimate room in central Hanoi, this is the night to pick.

   Singing is Bach Nguyen, who, in the club's words, brings the voice, the soul and the occasional spark of something unexpected, while the club's resident Soft Paws Jazz Band lays down the groove. Expect vocal jazz, soul and blues. The club describes Soft Paws as moving with a cat's light steps, slipping in with subtle elegance before bursting into spontaneous modern jazz. Per the club's page, the band is host and vocalist Blake, Ngoc Tran (piano), Thach Xanh (bass) and Baron (drums).

   It is a night for people who come to a jazz club for the singing: blues, soul and standards performed live, a few steps from your table.

   Blake's House of Jazz has been running since 2022; its founders, a group of friends, describe it as intimate, lively and never quite predictable, with cocktails and drinks to go with the jazz.

   «Soul After Dark» runs every Friday; the bar is open 19:00–00:30. The programme is as listed on the club's website in early October: titles and line-ups change from time to time, and on special nights the programme and start time may differ. There is an entrance fee, payable at the end of your visit; the amount is not published on the website. The club says Fridays often fill early.
