Nguyễn Du Hồ Xuân Hương Ngoại Truyện

   A love story that never made it into the official chronicles returns here as a stage dream, imagined between two of the greatest names in Vietnamese poetry. It is told less through dialogue than through music, light and movement, drawing you into layers of memory that hang in the moonlit mist of Hồ Tây (West Lake).

   The production sets Nguyễn Du, Vietnam's towering classical poet, beside Hồ Xuân Hương, the boldest voice of Nôm-script verse, in an encounter built from imagination and longing. It is less a play to watch than an emotional dream to step inside.

   The stage works as a dreamscape: the light of West Lake, time folding over itself, and Hồ Xuân Hương's free, sensual poetry answering the human sorrow in Nguyễn Du's lines. For anyone drawn to Vietnamese letters or to image-rich theatre, it is an evening worth giving yourself over to.
