About the event

   Gongs, xoang circle dances, Then singing and a community xoe dance fill the Dong Mo culture village as Hanoi launches its programme for Vietnam Culture Day right in the village where communities of many ethnic groups are active every day. If you want to meet the cultures of Vietnam's ethnic communities without a long trip, this is a good reason to head out to Dong Mo.

   The launch ceremony opens the "Ngày Văn hóa Việt Nam" (Vietnam Culture Day) series in Hanoi for 2026. The roughly 90-minute ceremony includes a welcome performance, a flag salute, the signing of a coordination agreement between Hanoi and ten provinces and cities — Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Son La, Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Hue and Can Tho — and the formal launch. Around 450–500 official guests are expected.

   After the ceremony come two days of performances and community cultural exchange:

  • — traditional arts of the Ba Na, Gia Rai, Ede, Tay, Thai, Dao, Ta Oi, Co Tu and Khmer peoples;
  • — gong ensembles, xoang dance, solos on the t'rung bamboo xylophone, Then singing, tinh lute music, bell dances, Thai dances, folk songs, folk dances and community xoe;
  • — the 16 ethnic community groups who are active at the village every day;
  • — 26 cultural spaces, including 6 dedicated to Thang Long – Hanoi and 20 booths showing products of Hanoi's craft villages, craft streets and OCOP products.

   The organisers aim to give people a space to take part in, try out and practise culture themselves, and to honour the artisans, artists and communities who keep these traditions alive. It works well for families with children and for international visitors who want to see Vietnam's cultural diversity in a single day.

   The launch is planned for the Village III stage (Sân khấu Làng III) on 3 October; performances, exchanges and cultural spaces run on both 3 and 4 October in the ethnic villages area. According to the Hanoi city portal's infographic, the launch begins at 8:30; on 4 October there are two performance sessions, 9:00–10:30 and 14:30–16:00.

   Come to Dong Mo and see a living culture, not a museum display.
