Culture and ArtsTen participants, six days, one question: what remains of a war once the fighting has ended - in memory, in landscapes, in the families who still live with its consequences?
The documentary film and photography workshop «What Remains», led by German professor Matthias Leupold, runs 19-24 November 2026. Part A (19-21 Nov) takes place at the Vietnam Friendship Village, 304 Xuân Phương street, An Trai village, Sơn Đồng, Hà Nội, where participants meet veterans and others whose lives are tied to the war's long-term effects. Part B (22-24 Nov) continues on Cát Bà Island or another location near Hanoi (Ninh Bình, Hòa Bình, Đà Bắc, Ba Vì...), chosen by the group.
The programme includes:
Maximum 10 participants, no professional experience required - open to students, artists, photographers and curious beginners. The working language is English, with Vietnamese support where needed.
Fees: Part A €150 (students €120), Part B €120 (students €90), with a €25 discount for booking both. Two scholarships covering the full fee are available. Apply by 20 October 2026 at [email protected], describing your interest, preferred medium (photo/video/sound) and experience level.
If you carry a camera or a phone and want to spend six days working, under real guidance, on a true story about what a war leaves behind, this is built for exactly that.
