Ceremony «100 năm thành lập xã Tân Cương» (Tân Cương centenary)

About the event

A hundred years ago Vietnam's most famous tea country was just a young commune among the midland hills. The centenary is marked with a ceremony inside the tea culture grounds where visitors already come to drink tea and hear villagers talk about the bushes - only this time the whole commune turns out.

The programme was announced by the Tân Cương commune people's committee at a meeting on 11 September 2026. The ceremony marks a full century since the commune was founded, 18 December 1926 to 18 December 2026, and is expected to draw 270 invited delegates along with residents of the commune's hamlets and visitors from other districts. No entry conditions for visitors have been announced.

   The anniversary programme includes:

  • — incense offerings at the martyrs' cemetery, the memorial and the shrine to fallen heroes in the commune
  • — a folk music and performance programme
  • — groundbreaking on several key public works, with commemorative plaques unveiled
  • — tea tasting and a walk through the stands of local OCOP products

Two days after the ceremony, on the same grounds, the commune runs «Tân Cương - Tinh hoa trà Việt», its contribution to the Thái Nguyên International Tea Festival 2026: tea talks with master makers who live in the heartland of Vietnam's «first among famous teas», demonstrations of brewing, the «Hành trình Trà Thái Nguyên» experience tour, OCOP stands and the launch of brand identification and traceability codes. Tân Cương is the anchor stop on five tour routes linked to the «heritage train» running from Hà Nội to Lưu Xá station.

For tea people this is a rare chance to meet many masters of one growing area at once, when normally you would have to call on them house by house. For neighbours it is simply their commune's day. For travellers, an afternoon in Tân Cương explains why the name has been tied to Vietnamese tea for a century.

A hundred years of a name that stands for Vietnamese tea - and you can stand in the middle of it with a cup in hand.
