Talk «Giao tiếp liên văn hóa» (Intercultural Communication)

   Two awkward questions for a first-year student land in the same morning: how to talk to someone from another culture without accidentally offending them, and how far you can push artificial intelligence before the work stops being yours. This talk takes on both, and charges nothing.

   Its full title is Giao tiếp liên văn hóa: Đòn bẩy trở thành công dân toàn cầu & Làm thế nào để sử dụng AI đúng cách trong học tập và nghiên cứu — intercultural communication as a lever towards global citizenship, plus the right way to use AI in study and research. It is organised by the Centre for Information, Library and Museum of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM, together with the DOL English school network.

   The content splits into three clear strands:

• — communication skills: understanding and respecting cultural difference in order to connect with confidence in a multinational setting;
• — an integration mindset: listening, understanding and adapting on purpose to a world that keeps moving;
• — handling AI: using the tools for study and research while keeping independent thinking and academic integrity intact.

   The three speakers come from three different vantage points, and that is deliberate. Dr Trần Nguyên Khang lectures at the university's Faculty of History and International Relations and looks at intercultural communication from the research side. Phạm Công Nhật, MA, is Communications Director of the DOL English network and brings the labour-market and language-teaching angle. Dr Bùi Thu Hằng directs the Centre for Information, Library and Museum, which makes her the person in charge of where students actually look things up.

   Everyone who attends receives a certificate of participation from the organisers, and for the university's own students the session counts towards the conduct points the institution records. The earliest arrivals at check-in also get gifts, in limited numbers.

   The talk takes place in the reading room of the Linh Xuân campus library, inside the university grounds rather than in a large auditorium. Seats are therefore limited and registration in advance is required.

   The organisers address the invitation not only to their own students and freshmen but to interested students from across Ho Chi Minh City. If you are in the middle of learning how an academic environment works, this is a morning worth showing up for.
