Author talk «Author's Talk with Larry Berman»

   The story of Phạm Xuân Ẩn — the spy who worked his way into Saigon's international press corps during the war — told by his biographer in the very city where it happened. Larry Berman is visiting again from the US to talk about a man he spent years researching.

   Author Larry Berman returns to The Old Compass to discuss his 2008 biography «Perfect Spy: The Incredible Double Life of Pham Xuan An, Time Magazine Reporter and Vietnamese Communist Agent». According to the hosts, the book grew out of years of research, more than 50 visits to Vietnam and interviews with Phạm Xuân Ẩn himself. Berman has written a number of books about the Vietnam War.

   It is an evening for anyone interested in history, journalism and wartime Saigon. Larry will be happy to sign copies; books are not sold at the event but can be found in good Saigon bookshops.

   Two ticket types are available: entry only, or entry with a Vietnamese set dinner and a glass of red or white house wine. Tickets are sold in advance directly at The Old Compass; door tickets only if seats remain. The room is intimate and Larry's previous talks sold out quickly. Children under 12 are not admitted.

   The Old Compass is on the 3rd floor down the lane at 63 Pasteur, right next to the Liberty Citypoint Hotel.
