Play «Làng Vô Tặc» (The Village Without Thieves)

   A village is granted the imperial title Vô Tặc — "no thieves" — after a misunderstanding involving a provincial mandarin's luggage. The honour is barely nailed up before it starts working in reverse: under the label of a crime-free village, the local officials abuse their power, lean on ordinary people and manufacture accusations out of nothing.

   The script is by Nhật Minh, directed by the actress Thanh Thủy and produced by Huỳnh Anh Tuấn. It premiered on 23 January 2026 and has held its place in the IDECAF repertoire since — a good sign for a folk comedy in a crowded Saigon theatre season.

   Thanh Thủy also plays the lead, Thị Dần, a wife who gives up her own happiness to clear her husband's name. She is joined by Meritorious Artist Bạch Long, Đình Toàn, Quốc Thịnh, Hoàng Trinh, Trịnh Minh Dũng, Quốc Tuấn, Bảo Cường and Kan Lê, with actors from Nhà Hát Nụ Cười.

   What makes the staging interesting is the balance: it keeps the spirit of traditional Vietnamese folk theatre while updating the language and rhythm for younger audiences, so the comedy carries the injustice plot rather than sitting next to it.

   The play is performed in Vietnamese and the humour is largely verbal, so it rewards some language — but the physical comedy and costume work carry a lot on their own. Both ticket tiers state the show is not for children under 12.
