Nightlife and ClubbingThe dance floor in this converted warehouse on Hanoi's Red River embankment gives under your feet on purpose: the room sits on a floating floor mounted on acoustic springs, and the four-way rig was built for this space alone. Six DJs share the booth over the night, half of them club residents.
The billed genre is techno. Who is playing:
CONG and Emmytee complete the line-up; both have played this room before.
Unmute was opened in 2023 by a group of music-loving friends working with Jiro Endo, a Tokyo-based architect who designed the interiors, the lighting and even the speaker enclosures. The club room on the fourth floor is called Cuốn, «to roll». Its custom four-way system was built in Nam Định by Mark Own Audio, with horn-loaded subs reaching down to 30 Hz, while the floating floor of springs, rockwool and soft rubber keeps the bass out of the building and the neighbours. One floor up, on the fifth and sixth floors, sits Tan Bar, a rooftop mixology room looking over the river and the Long Biên and Chương Dương bridges.
Geographically you are just east of the Old Quarter, on the embankment above Long Biên market — a short taxi ride from the centre, but a different Hanoi once you are inside.
If you follow underground electronic music, this night puts the club's own residents and invited DJs in the same booth. If the city's club scene is new to you, it is a way to see it without the tourist gloss: the club sums up its own musical line as techno, house and disco «and beyond», without genre borders.
Six DJs, one room and a sound system built for it: the only question is whether you last until the closing set.
