About the event

A Saturday night in Hanoi can go differently — not in a loud club, but at a small table in a live-music tea room, where the stage stands a few steps away and a voice carries without a wall of amplification. This time the room belongs to a singer who has kept to her own path while the mainstream moved on.

   In brief:

  • — headliner Phuong Phuong Thao (Phương Phương Thảo), a singer of tình ca and Vietnamese folk repertoire
  • — an unforced delivery: little vocal display, a lot of storytelling
  • — a true minishow, with almost no distance between the stage and the audience
  • — guests sit at tables, the sound is fully live, seats go by advance booking

She never chased trends and never needed volume: what wins the room is a warm, unhurried voice and the plainness of her phrasing. When she sings, the audience is taken back to melodies it already knows by heart — stories told in music, everyday feelings that hold up over the years. The closeness that has always marked her concerts only gets stronger in a room where the tables touch the stage.

The evening suits you if you like lyrical Vietnamese repertoire and folk songs, prefer a concert where you sit at a table instead of standing in a crowd, or simply want a calm close to the working week. The songs are sung in Vietnamese — this is the classic repertoire the tea-room audience knows line by line.

The room matters here as much as the set. Trixie Cafe & Lounge in Đống Đa, a short ride west of the Old Quarter, has been running minishows by Vietnamese singers for years, hosting Đàm Vĩnh Hưng, Mỹ Tâm, Hồ Ngọc Hà and Tuấn Hưng on the same small stage. By day it is a garden cafe with a menu of more than a hundred main dishes; by night it turns into a tea room with live sound.

The venue has not announced a price for the night: its listing gives neither an entry fee nor a table surcharge, so ask about the terms when you reserve a seat.

If you like music heard close up and at low volume, this weekend night is built for you.
