Piano and saxophone concert «Thì ra là Mơ»

#classical music#piano#saxophone#world mental health day#Phuc Loi#Hanoi

About the event

One piano, one saxophone and ten pieces — in a hall where few would expect a concert: the Hanoi psychiatric hospital. On the evening of 10 October, World Mental Health Day, the programme runs from Rachmaninoff to Beethoven.

The organisers describe the night as a journey in music: piano and saxophone walk side by side and «lead the listener through distant lands — where cultures meet, blend and tell stories that need no words». It is, they write, «a journey of imagination, of dreams about places we have never set foot in», and along the way «Vietnamese folk material will appear very quietly — like a passing pang of homesickness when you are somewhere far away».

The title is a pun. The poster carries the line «Mơ hay là Mận» (apricot or plum), and the Facebook event is called «Mận hay là Mơ, Mơ hay là Mận, thì ra là Mơ» — «mơ» means both apricot and dream. The programme holds exactly three pieces titled Dream.

Key facts: the programme as printed on the poster

   — Rachmaninoff, Elegie in E-flat minor, Op. 3 No. 1 — piano solo
— Dream 1 (Nazim), Dream 2 (Kumru Bilacak), Dream 3 (Sevanlere Dair) — piano and saxophone
— Luna – Nunong — saxophone
— Chopin, Waltz in C-sharp minor, Op. 64 No. 2 — piano solo
— Chopin, Impromptu No. 1 in A-flat major, Op. 29 — piano solo
— Chopin, Nocturne in C-sharp minor — piano and saxophone
— J.S. Bach, Ave Maria — piano and saxophone
— Beethoven, Moonlight — piano and saxophone

Performing are Pho An My (Phó An My) on piano and Quyen Thien Dac (Quyền Thiện Đắc) on saxophone, with arrangements by Dang Tue Nguyen (Đặng Tuệ Nguyên). The poster adds a subtitle: «Cảm hứng Chiềng Đi số 2».

On the poster, World Mental Health Day 2026 comes with the line «Lived Experiences Heard — Real Voices, Real Change». The concert is offered as a thank-you: the organisers dedicate it to «the doctors, the nurses and all those who care for the community's mental health day and night», «those who chose to stay beside people in their most fragile hours».

Admission terms have not been announced: the event is public on Facebook, but the organisers say nothing about tickets or registration.

An evening of classical music in an unusual place, with a line from the organisers themselves: «Music connects souls and opens up new possibilities».
