Where Do Ideas Come From? — A Workshop with Malcolm McNeill

   Ideas are the building blocks of stories, but not every idea is worth pursuing. What turns a fleeting thought into the start of a book? How do you tell an idea that can grow from one that cannot?

   In this workshop with writer Malcolm McNeill — author of "The Beginning Woods" — we step into the world of imagination, where everyday experiences, memories, books, chance encounters and even passing thoughts can connect and create stories with lasting vitality. Alongside his own creative journey, Malcolm offers practical insight into observing the world, nurturing creativity and developing the critical thinking to tell an appealing idea from one with real depth.

   About the facilitator

   Malcolm McNeill is a British writer, born in 1976 in Newcastle and raised in Scotland. His debut novel "The Beginning Woods" was nominated for the 2018 Carnegie Medal — one of the most prestigious awards for English-language children's and young-adult literature in the UK — and has been translated into German. He has spent many years living, working and teaching English in Vietnam.
