Culture and ArtsVietnamese rice is about to get four days to tell its story on an international scale: at the end of November, Cần Thơ hosts the second Vietnam International Rice Festival, with more than 500 exhibition booths, a run of conferences, contests, demonstrations and tours. For the people of the Mekong Delta it is a look at the trade of their grandparents; for visitors, a rare chance to see the whole rice value chain gathered in one place.
In brief:
— theme «Vietnamese Green Rice – Reaching the World»
— an exhibition area of more than 500 booths
— conferences, contests, demonstrations and sightseeing programmes
— OCOP products and the achievements of the rice sector on display
— planned dates 23–26 November 2026
The organising committee was set up by the Cần Thơ City People's Committee, with the Department of Agriculture and Environment as its standing body; at its first meeting on 18 September, Vice-Chairman Trần Chí Hùng asked departments to settle on an event contractor and finalise the programme quickly. Press reports the same week said the city is growing 25,000 pots of rice to build a «rice road» for the festival.
The festival is aimed at farmers, cooperatives, businesses and scientists of the rice chain, but it is open to the public: you can walk the booths of Mekong Delta produce, watch demonstrations of green, low-emission production and buy OCOP goods on the spot. The grand opening is on the evening of 23 November, and the exhibition area spreads across Song Hau Park and the surrounding streets. Its centrepiece is the «Rice Road from the Past to the Future» exhibition: each stage of Vietnamese rice growing, from primitive farming and smallholder agriculture through industrialisation to 4.0 farming, gets its own pavilion of farming tools. The programme also includes a rice art contest (23 November), a rice innovation contest (25 November), the conference «Vietnamese Green Rice – Creating Value, Reaching the World» and demonstrations of modern rice-farming machinery. If you are planning a Mekong trip in late November, this is a reason to make Cần Thơ the base.
