Art workshop «Thu Hoạ Vầng Trăng»

   Two evening hours, a box of oil pastels and one A5 frame: enough to get away from a screen, sit down and draw your own moon. This is a class aimed at people who have not painted much rather than at people who already can.

   The medium is oil pastel, forgiving for beginners because it lets you layer colour and blend it with a fingertip without any brush technique. The subject stays in the palette of the moon and falling leaves: the yellow of a full moon, a night sky behind it, a lantern hanging alongside. Each session runs exactly two hours and ends with a finished picture.

   The fee already covers:

• — All tools and materials, laid out in advance
• — A drink or a homemade cake made in the Garden Art kitchen
• — Your finished work with a gift box, packed so it can be given away as a present

   Instruction is given in Vietnamese or in English depending on the group, so the class works for foreign visitors too. The studio also takes private bookings and custom pieces, which suits a group of friends or a date for two. Parking is in the yard of the Bạch Đằng secondary school in alley 386 Lê Văn Sỹ, and a fee applies.

   Of the three sessions in this run, the last one falls on the night of the eighth-month full moon. If you would rather mark Mid-Autumn by making something than by watching something, that is the one to take.
