Party «Tổ công tác visits Flavacode: Bass Edition»

   Two Hanoi music collectives join forces for a night about exactly one thing: bass. The Tổ công tác crew is back, this time visiting the FLAVACODE crew for a special edition, with a brief they set themselves — to make you feel the bass with your whole body.

   The organisers warn in advance that the energy will be raw, and tell the crowd to bring their gun fingers and bass face: the two reflexes of any bass floor when a track lands exactly right.

   Four names take the booth: Emmytee, Fomococo, LINHTONIK and HDMI?. The territory is bass and garage — shuffled rhythms, heavy low end and sharply cut silences, a lineage that belongs to British sound system culture far more than to an EDM stage.

   A short explanation helps if this is new to you: British bass music does not build toward a single drop the way a big stage does, it moves through shuffled beats and low-end that falls in when you do not expect it, while garage is the lighter branch of the same family, with a slipping rhythm and vocals cut into fragments. Both grew out of sound system culture, which is why the room's speakers matter far more than any screen behind the DJ.

   The format of this series is worth noting: each edition is a meeting with a different collective, so the content never repeats itself and the line-up changes with it. The previous edition also took place at Le Maquis Club, a room on an upper floor of an Old Quarter building on Hàng Buồm.

   The night will suit followers of drum and bass, garage, dubstep and the other bass branches, and it is an easy entry point if you want to understand why Hanoi's bass floors keep filling up.
