Club night «Strawberry Cult Vol. III»

   A night of techno and electro that brings a guest over from Bangkok: five selectors from different cities take turns behind the decks in one room at Le Maquis Club and play until dawn. If you follow Hanoi's club scene, this is the one to stay up for.

   The reason is Eizu, a Bangkok-based DJ. She works through hypnotic electronics, minimal and techno — subterranean basslines, woody percussion and darker textures that she shifts with the room as the night develops. She comes to Hanoi for her first appearance at Strawberry Cult, a series built from the start as an exchange between cities.

   Around her are four names already known to the local floor. Manikk has long been part of Hanoi's club landscape as a DJ, curator and Savage resident; his sets tie the harder edges of nineties club music to contemporary house and techno. Techa, originally from Serbia and now based in Hanoi, co-founded Atipik Collective and has played EXIT Festival — old-school techno, house and electro. Kenno comes from Melbourne, is a long-term Mirage resident and the founder of samo.malo. Colette, a Hanoi DJ and co-founder of Strawberry Cult, moves through house, minimal, electro, acid and breaks.

   This one is for people who listen to techno and electro for the way a DJ reads a room rather than for familiar hits. That is also what separates it from an ordinary weekend at the same club: alongside the Hanoi residents stands a visitor making her first appearance in the series. Five selectors, different places, one room — that is how the organisers put it themselves. If that is your reason to go out, this is your night.
