Traditional boat race «Giải đua thuyền truyền thống phường Quảng Phú 2026»

About the event

   Seven boats, seventeen rowers in each, and a river with neither a source nor a mouth of its own: the Trường Giang runs some 70 km parallel to the Đà Nẵng coast simply to link two river systems together. On that water, Quảng Phú ward is putting its own name on a rowing race for the first time, over two distances — 4.5 km and 7.5 km.

   The race opens a run of local events marking 81 years since the founding of Vietnam's People's Public Security force (19 August 1945) and 21 years of the national security day, Ngày hội toàn dân bảo vệ an ninh Tổ quốc (19 August 2005). In 2026 Quảng Phú is one of only two wards Đà Nẵng picked to host that day, so volleyball, tug of war, community concerts and legal-awareness sessions follow the rowing.

   What matters on the water:

  • Giải Hòa Bình, the "peace" race — 4.5 km;
  • Giải Truyền thống, the "traditional" race — 7.5 km;
  • — 17 rowers per boat;
  • — neighbourhood crews: Hòa Hạ, Tam Thanh, Tỉnh Thủy, Tam Phú;
  • — invited clubs: CLB Thanh niên Nam Phước, CLB Quảng Đại – Vu Gia, CLB Cửa Đại – Hội An;
  • — main sponsor: Bia Larue.

   The start list doubles as a map of the river. The Trường Giang meets the sea at Cửa Đại in Hội An to the north and at Cửa An Hòa to the south, tying the Vu Gia – Thu Bồn system to the Tam Kỳ – An Tân waters; the two visiting clubs named Cửa Đại and Vu Gia come from either end of that chain, and the racing happens in the middle of it.

   For coastal families here, rowing has never been only sport. The race carries wishes for kind weather, good harvests and safe fishing trips, and crews pulling in one rhythm stand for the solidarity and river-country pride of the whole area.

   If Tam Thanh beach is already on your list, this folds two things into one morning: the same ward holds làng bích họa Tam Thanh, Vietnam's first mural village, painted in June 2016 when Korean artists, volunteers and residents covered roughly 100 houses with some 70 murals. Between May and August 2026 Quảng Phú runs a full summer programme stretching from Hạ Thanh beach and the mural village to the Trường Giang and the sông Đầm wetlands.

   The ward itself is new: it was formed on 1 July 2025 from Tam Phú commune, An Phú ward and Tam Thanh commune of the former Tam Kỳ city, the same day Quảng Nam became part of Đà Nẵng. "Lần thứ I" on the banner means edition one — a tradition starting its own count.

   The organiser is the Quảng Phú People's Committee (UBND phường Quảng Phú), with the ward police running preparations.

   Get down to the bank early: the good viewing spots go fast, and you will hear a Trường Giang race before you see it. Pick a crew and shout for it.
