About the event

How did the Vietnamese áo dài travel from the brocade robes of the imperial court to the white uniforms of schoolgirls and today's feminine silhouette? Áo Dài Show in Da Nang tells that story in one evening, weaving fashion, dance and stage tableaux into a history of the country told through costume.

According to the city's tourism portal, the show combines fashion, dance and cultural storytelling, tracing the áo dài through historical eras via changing costumes, from courtly elegance to modern femininity. Its creators date the dress back to Lord Nguyen Phuc Khoat (Nguyễn Phúc Khoát, 1739–1765), under whom, they say, the áo dài was recognized as Vietnam's national dress nearly three centuries ago.

As the organizer describes it, the program moves through scenes from different eras:
— royal brocade costumes of Cung Vua – Phủ Chúa (the King's Palace and the Lords' Residence) of the Nguyễn dynasty, Vietnam's last
— «300 năm áo dài xưa» (300 years of the old áo dài)
— a traditional Vietnamese wedding
— a tableau of schoolgirls in white áo dài
— a finale celebrating the áo dài as the national costume

The show is produced by the VKSTAR company. Its founder, Nguyen Lan Vy (Nguyễn Lan Vy), chairs the company and serves as its CEO; the company presents her as a festival stage director and designer.

It will appeal to anyone who wants to understand why the áo dài became a symbol of Vietnam, to fans of costume and fashion, and to those who would rather see the country's history on stage than read about it. In September 2026 the newspaper Báo Đà Nẵng described it as a place where locals and visitors can slow down amid the modern city and feel the grace, pride and softness of the áo dài.

Shows run daily at 17:00 and 19:45. Ticket prices depend on citizenship: Vietnamese citizens pay half of what international guests pay. Book through the form on the show's website or by phone; for foreign guests the organizer runs dedicated lines, in English at 091 145 8889 and 0909 169 998 and in Korean at 0766 338 889, 0909 169 998 and 0799 812 288; email [email protected].

Pick your slot, the late-afternoon show at five or the evening one at a quarter to eight, and watch a single dress tell nearly three centuries of history.
