Festival Hoa Đà Lạt 2026 (Da Lat Flower Festival)

   Flowers usually take top billing here, but this year music stands beside them: the theme of the eleventh edition is «Đà Lạt - Bản giao hòa của sắc hoa và âm nhạc», Da Lat as a harmony of flowers and music, and the jazz stage is built on the surface of Xuân Hương Lake. If you are weighing up where to spend late December in Vietnam, this is the fortnight that makes the case for the Central Highlands instead of the coast.

   Da Lat sits at around 1,500 m on the Lâm Viên plateau, roughly 300 km north-east of Ho Chi Minh City, and the cool, dry December air is exactly why the festival lands in this month. Under the provincial plan it runs 11 main programmes plus 25 supporting events, and this edition reaches beyond the highlands to Phan Thiết, Mũi Né and Bắc Gia Nghĩa. The main schedule:

   The opening night is broadcast live on national television and closes with high-altitude fireworks; the final night is a New Year 2027 concert with low-altitude fireworks. In between, a province-wide campaign asks every household to put out at least one flower or plant, so expect blooms on garden fences and street corners, not only on the official sites.

   It works for families, photographers, anyone who likes live music in cold mountain air, and travellers who would rather see in the New Year among pine forest than on a beach. If you grow or trade flowers, the conference, the growers' market and the international exhibitions are the parts worth planning around.

   The event began as «Lễ hội sắc hoa Đà Lạt», a flower fair held in December 2004; from 2005 the city has staged it as a biennial festival, and ten editions have now been held. The tenth, in 2024, ran for nearly a month, drew 2 million visits and generated an estimated 3.6 trillion VND for the local economy — its closing night on Lâm Viên Square pulled a crowd of almost 20,000 people at 14°C.

   There are hard numbers behind the «city of a thousand flowers» tag: Lâm Đồng province now farms more than 10,880 ha of flowers and produces 4.4 billion stems a year. The trade dates back to 1936, when 35 settlers from the flower villages around Hanoi's West Lake moved south; Hà Đông hamlet, the oldest flower village in Da Lat, was founded in 1938. Da Lat is also a UNESCO Creative City of Music, which is what this year's programming leans on.

   One practical warning. The city has over 2,500 registered places to stay with 33,138 rooms, and festival season still fills them. Before the 2024 edition hundreds of travellers lost deposits to fake hotel pages on social media — rooms advertised 30-50% below market rate, a 50% transfer requested, then silence. Book early, and confirm directly with the property.

   Two weeks of flower streets, jazz over the water and fireworks at both ends of it: if you want a room with a view of any of it, December is not the month to improvise.
