About the event

Thousands of pilgrims dressed in white stream quietly toward a vividly coloured temple in the province of Tây Ninh. This is the Holy See (Tòa Thánh), the spiritual heart of Cao Đài and the setting for the faith's single biggest day of the year. Once a year the great courtyard turns into a sea of worshippers, awash with music, lamplight and towering offerings raised to the Holy Mother.

In brief — what you will see:

  • The grand multicoloured temple itself, glowing under the lights
  • Towering offerings built from fresh fruit and flowers
  • The incense dragon dance (múa rồng nhang) and the four sacred animals (tứ linh)
  • Solemn processions and music through the night
  • Thousands of white-clad believers from across the country

Cao Đài is a syncretic faith that blends Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Christianity, and it was born here in Tây Ninh early in the last century. The celebration honours the Holy Mother, Diêu Trì Kim Mẫu, giver of life and compassion. The year 2026 is doubly special: the religion turns one hundred. Mountains of fruit and towers of flowers rise beside the altar as incense drifts across the yard. Night is the finest hour — beneath a full moon the temple blazes with lanterns, processions file past, and the courtyard fills with the flowing dance of the four sacred beasts, the shot everyone wants.

The celebration welcomes everyone: devotees, families and travellers curious about a living spiritual culture. For families it is also a gentle way to introduce children to an unfamiliar faith. It helps to know that the white robes are the everyday dress of Cao Đài followers, and that the event, for all its devotion, stays open to guests of any faith — the custom is simply to watch with respect. You may take photos in the courtyard, but inside the temple it is better to observe in silence.

If you want to see a Vietnam that ordinary guidebooks tend to miss, this is the place.
