Culture and ArtsFor most of a week, Hue becomes the meeting point of Vietnam's jewellery trade: contestants from across the country arrive alongside master craftsmen, designers and manufacturers. It is a pageant with an actual industry behind it, not just a runway.
The programme runs 13 to 18 October 2026 and covers preliminary rounds, semi-final, final and accompanying events. New this year is the parallel Vietnam Jewellery and Gemstone Design Contest 2026, whose best pieces are shown during the final night itself.
Hue was not chosen at random. Goldsmithing in central Vietnam began here: in the late 18th century Cao Đình Độ and his son Cao Đình Hương came to Thuận Hóa, settled at Kế Môn village and taught the craft. In 1790, under the Quang Trung reign, they were tasked with founding the Cơ vệ Ngân tượng, the royal workshop for gold and silver. The tombs and ancestral house of the trade's founders were listed as a national historical relic in 1990.
The contest is organised by N-Queen Jewelry with the Vietnam Gold, Silver and Gemstone Association and the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre. Dr Phan Thanh Hải, director of the city Department of Culture and Sports, framed the event as a chance to position Hue as a host of national and international cultural programming.
If design, craft or the business side of jewellery interests you, this mid-October week is worth marking. The exact venue and how to attend will be announced by the organisers.
Come for the crown if you like — the more interesting story is what went into making it.
