About the event
Running through the old town before first light is the one hour of the day when Hoi An's merchant houses, mossy tiled roofs and narrow lanes are not packed with visitors.
This is a brand-new race, staged for the first time this year. For anyone who collects finisher medals, a first edition has its own appeal: nobody has run it yet, and every course record is still unclaimed.
Three distances: 5, 10 and 21 km. The start is at 5am, so most of the running happens before the central-Vietnam heat arrives — rare comfort for August.
The organiser is Belove Mountain, with Thien Minh Group backing the event. The idea is to tie sports tourism to a break by the coast — Hoi An offers both, and many runners turn race day into a long weekend.
If you have only ever seen Hoi An crowded, try the empty version at dawn — you will barely recognise it as the same place.
