«Hallowed Land» Open Studio — Lê Thúy Projects

   This is not an exhibition in the usual sense but an open studio: visitors walk directly into the working space of artist Le Thuy and see the process rather than only the outcome.

   Alongside finished works there are experiments, studies and the intermediate stages of pieces — together with the materials that have accompanied the artist for years. For anyone interested in traditional media it is a rare chance: lacquer workshops are normally closed.

   «Hallowed Land» grew out of years spent observing places shaped by history, conflict and neglect. The question the artist puts: when people are severed from land they once belonged to, and that land becomes a border, a resource or a battlefield — what remains?

   Lacquer is the central material language in Le Thuy's practice, set against silk. Unlike ordinary surface techniques, lacquer's power lies in concealment and retention: layer by layer, colour, gold and silver sink down and then surface again as the material is sanded back. That property makes it a natural fit for a project about memory and what has been buried.

   The studio is at 285 Nguyen Duy Hieu in Hoi An. The display runs from 7 August through 30 September 2026, open 10am to 5pm. The 6 August opening is by invitation only.
