Club night «Cristoph»

   There is a moment people wait all night for: the bass settles into a single pulse, the floor catches the first long swell, and from then on you stop counting hours and start counting how slowly the tension inside a track keeps rising. Melodic techno lives on exactly that — and the man building it in the middle of Ho Chi Minh City is a British DJ who has played whole seasons of it in Ibiza.

   Volar Saigon has booked a headliner the progressive scene remembers through hard numbers rather than adjectives.

   The record that made his name is "Breathe", built with the duo CamelPhat and singer Jem Cooke: November 2018, the Pryda Presents label, number 36 on the UK singles chart, number 21 on the US Dance Club Songs chart, Platinum with the BPI. His mentor is Eric Prydz, who signed him to that same Pryda Presents, home to "Feel" and "EPOCH", and who put out his own remix of "Breathe" in the spring of 2019. Since 2022 Cristoph has run his own label too — Consequence of Society, grown out of his radio show.

   Who is this for? For anyone who follows progressive and melodic techno release by release rather than through radio charts. For anyone who values the open-to-close sets Cristoph is known for, where one DJ carries the room from doors to lights. And for anyone who wants a close look at an artist used to the stages of Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Ultra Miami and EDC Las Vegas. If you go to clubs for the music and not for the background, this is your night.

   The venue sums itself up in a single line — "where the night finds its pulse". It is a club in the Ben Thanh ward, built on minimalist chic, carefully made cocktails and nights with Vietnamese and international DJs; the fun, the place says, runs until sunrise.
