Exhibition «Thu sang vọng nguyệt» (When the Mid-Autumn Comes) at Indochine House Ho Chi Minh City

About the event

Three moon-watching weeks on Lê Công Kiều, Saigon's antiques street: paintings by ten contemporary Vietnamese artists hung beside antique Chinese and Japanese ceramics, with landscape treated as a quiet corner for expressing the inner self as the season turns to full autumn. If you want a slow afternoon a block from Bến Thành market, this is exactly that.

«Thu sang vọng nguyệt», which the gallery translates as «When the Mid-Autumn comes», is what Indochine House has done every full-moon season for years, its signature pairing of antiques with contemporary art. This year the show opens in both its northern and southern spaces; in Saigon it sits in the house at 10 Lê Công Kiều, a street known for its antique shops.

   At a glance:
— works by ten artists: Hồ Hữu Thủ, Lê Vượng, Nguyễn Thế Hùng, Phạm Đức Tùng, Khổng Đỗ Duy, Trương Văn Ngọc, Lê Quỳnh Anh, Minh Kha Lê, Hà My and Hà Minh Thuận
— antique Chinese and Japanese ceramics shown alongside the paintings
— open Tuesday to Sunday, closed on Mondays
— in the gallery's words, «an unhurried encounter» between painting and antiques, between values that endure and reflections that keep evolving

The show is for collectors and gallery-goers, for lovers of old ceramics, and for anyone who wants a quieter Mid-Autumn than the lantern streets. The line-up spans from an established name like Hồ Hữu Thủ to artists born after 2000, so you see both ends of Vietnamese painting in one room.

Indochine House has worked since 1997 under the motto «Art for Living» and keeps spaces in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; the same programme runs in parallel on the third floor of 8 Tràng Thi in Hanoi.

The announcement does not state entry conditions; in previous years visitors were asked to message Indochine House to book a visit, so it is worth writing before you come.

Pick a weekday afternoon, turn into the antiques street and let autumn arrive a little more slowly.
