SportsThe final home fixture of a group stage is the one where the stands do as much work as the players. Southeast Asia's reigning champions wrap up their group in Hanoi, and this is the last time the national team can be watched at home before the knockout rounds. You will be sitting exactly where the campaign gets decided.
Vietnam share Group A with Timor-Leste, Singapore, Indonesia and Cambodia, and the Cambodians are their closing opponents in the round. The start was convincing: Vietnam beat Timor-Leste in the opening fixture, with forward Dinh Bac (Nguyễn Đình Bắc) scoring a hat-trick and taking the player-of-the-match award.
The essentials:
Come for the result, stay for the atmosphere: families, groups of friends and entire offices turn up in red with drums and flags. For anyone new to the country this is the fastest way to understand how Vietnamese football support works — nobody explains the rules of the stand, you pick them up within ten minutes.
Sân vận động Quốc gia Mỹ Đình is the country's national arena, seating roughly 40,000. It stands in Từ Liêm, in the western part of Hanoi, next to the football federation's headquarters, and hosts the national team's home games at major tournaments.
After the opening win the head coach said he was pleased: the players delivered almost everything the staff had prepared, and the goals scored would add confidence. He also thanked the supporters who came out in poor weather, calling their backing a major source of energy for the squad. Dinh Bac was more measured after his hat-trick: a month of intensive preparation had paid off, and the team would keep working to make the whole tournament a success.
Tickets come in four denominations, from 200,000 to 500,000 VND, the difference being where in the stands you sit. The only official sales channel is the Techcombank OneU app, with online sales running until 23:59 on 29 July or until the last seats go. You will need a passport or a Vietnamese ID card to buy, and the ticket is delivered by Vietnam Post courier to the address you register (30,000 VND) or collected at a post office (25,000 VND). The federation notes the scheme may change, up to opening counters near the stadium — which is what happened for the Singapore fixture.
Sharp objects, pyrotechnics and flares, pepper spray and anything comparable are not allowed inside; anyone breaking the rules can be refused entry with no refund. The tournament's supporter campaign is named accordingly: «Cổ vũ văn minh – không pháo sáng», civilised support with no flares.
If the courier cannot reach you, the envelope goes back to the Vietnam Post office in the Nam Từ Liêm industrial zone (Kho số 2 CN2, đường Thanh Lâm, phường Xuân Phương), where it can be collected on match day between 08:00 and 17:00. Full conditions are in the federation's announcement: Tickets.
Wear red and save your voice: this is where the team's home group campaign ends.
