SportsWrestling mats in a shopping-mall atrium are not the usual sight, and that is the point: Hanoi's clubs are taking jiu-jitsu out of the training room and putting it in front of passers-by. Two days of matches and meeting are framed as a gathering of Vietnam's whole grappling community rather than another closed tournament.
"Ngày Hội Nhu thuật Hà Nội mở rộng" translates as the Hanoi open jiu-jitsu festival; the English name, Hanoi Open Grappling Festival, says the same. The organisers stress that a festival of this kind is happening at AEON MALL Long Biên for the first time.
In short
What it is — an open jiu-jitsu and grappling festival: matches, exchange and club-to-club contact
Stated goal — to connect the grappling community across the country, not just the capital's gyms
Format — "mở rộng", extended: teams from outside Hanoi can enter
Length — two days
Setting — a mall rather than a sports hall, so you can watch simply by walking past
It is worth going if you train gi or no-gi, if you coach a club, or if you are a parent scouting a class for a child: two days put most of the scene in one place, and talking to coaches face to face beats ringing gyms one by one. Spectators enter through the mall as usual.
The detailed schedule, weight categories and entry terms had not been published when the event was announced — the organisers promise details closer to the date on the event page.
If you have been meaning to see what this looks like in person, it is a rare chance that does not require signing up for a class first.
