Film week «Hiền tài và Hào khí Thăng Long»

#film week#documentary#animation#filmmaker Q and A#free entry#Hanoi

About the event

Six consecutive days, ten screenings, and a conversation with artists or the crew after almost every one. All tickets are given out free through a registration link, so the only thing to do is pick your session before the seats go.

The week is organised by the Vietnam Film Development Promotion Association together with the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám Centre, marking 950 years since the founding of Quốc Tử Giám. The programme holds 15 works across documentary, animation and feature film, all circling talent, learning and the historical spirit of Thăng Long.

The schedule moves day by day. The opening night pairs the 28-minute documentary «Thái Tổ Lý Công Uẩn – Chiếu dời đô» with the 67-minute feature «Học trò thủy thần», followed by half an hour with the crew. The second evening brings the animation «Sự tích Đền Voi Phục» and the feature «Truyện cổ tích cho tuổi 17». The third pairs «Thái Tổ Lý Công Uẩn – Chứng nhân quyền lực» with «Học trò thủy thần».

The weekend is the busiest stretch:

  • — Saturday holds three sessions: «Chiếc chìa khóa vàng», the war film «Mùi cỏ cháy», and the animation «Truyền thuyết gươm thần» with «Truyện cổ tích cho tuổi 17»
  • — Sunday daytime is built for younger audiences: «Sự tích Đền Bạch Mã», «Hào khí Thăng Long», then the trio «Chuyện Ông Gióng», «Giấc mơ Loa Thành» and «Người thầy của muôn đời»
  • — Sunday evening returns to «Mùi cỏ cháy»
  • — the closing night screens the first-prize short films with their authors present, then «Chiếc chìa khóa vàng»

It suits families with children, students, and anyone interested in Vietnamese films that rarely reach a big screen. Sessions are spread across different auditoriums inside the same centre, so check the room number when you collect your ticket.

All films are in Vietnamese, and the screenings do not carry subtitles.

Tickets cost nothing but are limited, and the sessions with a Q and A tend to fill first, so registering early is the safest route.
