About the event

On Đó Theatre's stage built over water, Cham, Ê Đê and J'Rai folk dances meet aerial circus and contemporary lighting, with the music played live by artists from those very communities. Chum Show tells the story of central Vietnam's indigenous cultures through today's stagecraft.

The show takes its name from "cái chum", the earthenware jar found in everyday Vietnamese life and belief, a symbol of the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. In Cham and some Central Highlands languages, "chum" also means a kiss - a gentle symbol of healing and connection. The programme brings together:

Folk dances of the Cham, Ê Đê and J'Rai peoples staged over water
Aerial hoop and silk acts woven into the choreography
Indigenous music performed live by artists from the Cham and Central Highlands communities themselves
An immersive water stage that uses light and earthenware jars as its main props

If you've already seen Vietnam's water-puppet tradition, Chum Show opens a different layer of Khánh Hòa's culture - where Cham heritage, Central Highlands communities and the Kinh majority meet - at the very same theatre.

Đó Theatre takes its shape from "cái đó", the bamboo fish trap every Vietnamese household knows, a 2,500m² building on the Bãi Tiên coastline inside Libera Nha Trang. The hall seats 536, split into Dragon, Tiger and Zodiac tiers by distance from the stage, with separate rates for children and seniors.

Chum Show runs at 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; the weekly line-up can shift, so it's worth checking the booking calendar before you go.

For anything beyond the basics, the theatre takes questions at [email protected].

An afternoon at Đó Theatre is a chance to hear central Vietnam's indigenous culture told in a brand-new stage language.
