Project presentation «The People's Songs – Trong lời gió hát»

   A community choir of nearly 300 singers is bringing its annual concert to Hải Phòng for the first time, and this morning session is where the plan gets laid out: who sings, what they sing, and why Gió Xanh is asking the port city to help. If choral music has always sounded like something for other people, this is the easiest way in.

   Gió Xanh, the Green Wind Choir, was founded in Hanoi in 2019 with 80 members. It now gathers hundreds of singers aged 6 to 87, from every walk of life, rehearsing every Sunday under conductor Nguyễn Hải Yến. It was the first community choir in Vietnam to stage a full choral concert of its own.

   Since 2020 the choir has put on 12 non-profit concerts in Hanoi, Đà Nẵng, Hạ Long and Huế, across seasons titled «Green Christmas», «Green Passport», «The Circle of Green», «Loving Vietnam» and «Colors of the Wind». Every season hundreds of seats go to teenagers from state social welfare centres: around 1,800 young people have come to listen, and more than 140 have sung on stage with the choir.

   This November the programme «The People's Songs – Trong lời gió hát» comes to Hải Phòng. The 9 August session is where the organisers present the project and look for partners — the registration form is open to social welfare centre staff, city departments, companies and ordinary concertgoers alike.

   The venue takes a little finding: room 23 on the second floor, in the Vị Thuỷ wing of the Gia Viên restaurant on Bạch Đằng street, a few minutes from the Hải Phòng riverfront. Ask at reception for Vị Thuỷ.
