Concert «Dĩ Vãng Nhạt Nhòa» (Faded Past) — Hà Nhi

   Three years ago that voice left a Hai Phong hall silent. Now Hà Nhi returns to the port city in a closer room, the kind where every light cue and every line reaches the listener, and sings a single themed programme rather than a run of chart songs.

   The night is called «Dĩ Vãng Nhạt Nhòa», roughly "a past that has faded", and it is the fifth edition of the Sóng Nhạc series. The series was founded by Nguyễn Duy Piano, a Hai Phong production company that owns its sound, lighting and technical rigs, and the organisers make a point of the whole show being put together by people from the city. Rừng iPhố and Shining Media come on board as partners.

   The short of it:

   — Hà Nhi performs with Khánh An Band, playing live through the whole set;
— backing vocals are handled by the SkyMelody group, so the ballads are built in layered harmonies;
— the programme follows one emotional line instead of stacking unrelated hits;
— the hall sits inside the city's convention and performance centre, a full-size stage with clearly separated seating tiers.

   It is a night for listeners of Vietnamese ballads, for anyone who was in the room three years ago and wants that voice in a warmer space, and for visitors who so far know Hà Nhi only from recordings. Expect to hear the bare passages of her singing, the ones a studio mix usually smooths over.

   The Hoa Phuong hall sits inside the city's convention and performance centre, in the new district on the northern bank of the Cấm river, so this is a full-size stage with clearly separated seating tiers: you can sit close enough to read expressions, or a little further back where the band balances out.

   The organisers state their premise plainly, that the affection Hai Phong audiences hold for this voice survived the three years intact. The concert is therefore built as an old appointment being kept rather than a stop on a tour schedule. The Sóng Nhạc series reaching its fifth edition works the same way: one guest, one theme and one night each time.
