Sunset party «Easy Like Sunday»

   The DJ booth goes straight onto the sand, facing the sea, and the night lasts exactly as long as the sunset does. For Da Nang that is an unusual rhythm: almost the whole electronic calendar here opens after dark, while this one starts in daylight and fades with the last glow on the water.

   Two names are playing. Alex C comes in from Pangea, the beach bar on the Thai island of Koh Lanta that runs its own weekly music schedule, from a midweek dance night to a Sunday deep house session. Which means he brings precisely the sound this format was built around.

   The second is Bytz, a New Yorker long settled in Vietnam. He has worked in sound and curation since 1997, playing from his native New York to clubs in Europe, the shores of Africa and many corners of Asia. His discography holds releases from the 2000s and early 2010s on mria|music and Chi Recordings, and the flyer sets Airtime and DNCR beside his name.

   The night is put together by Secret Guests, an artist collective and agency that describes its own mission as connecting underground scenes across Asia and encouraging international exchange without borders. This line-up is exactly that: a guest from a Thai island and a DJ with a New York grounding on the same stretch of beach.

   The venue is Simple Beach Tien Sa on Tien Sa beach, below the Son Tra slopes — white sand, bean bags, wooden huts and a bar counter at the water's edge. During the day people swim there, take out a SUP, a jet ski or a flyboard, so you can arrive long before the music. The venue states a capacity of up to 200 guests, which makes the evening small by design.

   The format suits you if you are in Da Nang and want electronic music without a club timetable: swim, dry off, stay for the set. And it suits you if you are curious how deep house and disco read with no walls around the speakers.

   Bring a towel and come a little early, because the best part of a night like this begins before the sun touches the water.
