About the event

   The Japan and Vietnam tour ends in the small club the series treats as its Vietnamese home. After a long afternoon by the sea the whole crew moves into town for the deepest music of the three parties.

   JAPONISM is named after the nineteenth century art movement, when Europe fell for Japanese prints, and it fuses Japanese art, music and party culture. The Vietnam run is built from three connected chapters: an opening in Saigon, an afternoon beach party in Da Nang, and this final night, by which point everyone in the room has already met twice.

   The longest line-up of the tour belongs to the last night:

  • Ku Shin Sai Orchestra, the group of Katsu Arai, endorphin and Nure Tengu;
  • Taku Hirayama, Ryoka Ishii and Maya from Japan;
  • — ItsmeNz and Son.of.deSun, two regulars of the Da Nang floor;
  • — Jeanne and Yun, two international selectors based in Vietnam.

   Gatosano has hosted many of the series' earlier editions, usually built around a Japanese guest, and the room is small enough that there is almost no distance between the booth and the crowd. The night sits in techno and house and plays until it is done.

   Before coming to Vietnam, JAPONISM played its Tokyo and Nasu editions in May. A final night is usually where a series like this opens up: once the crowd has stayed this late, the booth no longer has to keep things easy and can move into records that are deeper, slower or rougher.

   If you can only pick one chapter of the tour and want the one that is purely about the music, this is it. Advance tickets cost less than entry at the door.

   Get some sleep beforehand, because this night is built to be seen through to the end.
