Children's play «Cuộc Phiêu Lưu Kỳ Thú» (The Wondrous Adventure)

   Children's theatre is rare in Đà Nẵng, and this is exactly the kind of thing worth looking for: a fairy-tale journey where young audiences are meant to take part rather than sit still.

   The show is built as a road: the heroes cross invented lands, make friends and get through trials. Animal costumes, a sea made of cloth and lighting instead of sets all work for pre-school and primary age — the age at which a stage is still magic rather than convention.

   Who made it:

   — written by Trần Quang Kỳ and Nghinh Lộc;
   — directed by Nghinh Lộc, with Võ Ngọc Tiến as associate director;
   — artistic adviser: People's Artist Trần Ngọc Giàu;
   — music by Tuấn Vũ, choreography by Viva Thiện Vũ.

   The theatre also runs a strand it calls a journey for the childhood of Đà Nẵng, inviting children from the city's care homes to its performances. Buying a ticket puts you inside that as well.

   On tickets: sold through ticketbox, with the lowest tier from 69,000 VND — the price of two coffees here, so a family outing costs almost nothing. The play is performed in Vietnamese: a child without the language will follow the action and the costumes, but the dialogue will pass them by, which is worth knowing in advance.

   The stage is in Sơn Trà, not far from the riverfront, so the evening fits easily around a walk along the water.
